You know February is the month of love, so we're highlighting something that doesn't get enough love: Our local fungi! We're pleased to welcome Dr. Geoffrey Gearner, Professor of Biology at Morehead State University, who will be sharing fun and fascinating facts about mushrooms, toadstools, and more—including which ones are poisonous, which ones are edible, and how you can tell! We'll also have a drawing for a mystery prize, so don't miss out.

Dr. Gearner's current research is focused on monitoring antibiotic-resistant bacteria at the molecular level and tracking E. coli host sources in the Triplett Creek watershed, right here in Rowan County. Through exploring the use of antibiotic resistance genes as markers of watershed contamination, Dr. Gearner hopes to develop watershed plans that will lead to cleaner, safer water and easier management practices for local leaders.
