Your Rowan County Public Library works hard to make sure everyone has free access to information and education, no matter where they come from or who they are. We’re proud to offer a library card to any resident of Kentucky at no charge so that anybody can use our digital services or borrow from our collection.
If you don’t have a library account, getting one is as easy as asking for a patron registration form at our front circulation desk! Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to apply for a card.
Not from Kentucky? No problem! You can still get a library card, we just charge a one-time fee of $10.00 for out-of-state residents.
Anyone who wants a library card must present a photo ID. Examples of acceptable identification include, but aren't necessarily limited to:
- State-issued driver’s license or other state-issued ID
- U.S. passport
- Military ID (CAC or VA card)
- U.S. immigrant ID
- Student ID from your school or university
Teacher Cards
If you're a Rowan County public school teacher, you can get a special library card to use for your classroom! Teacher cards have a slightly higher limit on item checkouts, so you can borrow more books, audiobooks, and periodicals specifically for your programs.
To obtain a teacher card, just ask for an educator form at our front circulation desk. You'll need your current teacher ID, and you must have a normal adult library account in good standing. Please note that we offer teacher cards only to full-time Rowan County public and private school teachers; teachers from other counties, substitute teachers, teacher's aides, retired teachers, and student teachers are not eligible for these privileges.
For information about our item loan periods and more, visit our fees page.
What Can I Do With My Library Card?
Your library card gives you access not only to all of our physical materials, but also to our collections of ebooks and audiobooks; dozens of digital resources like databases, language learning apps, and more; library computers... The list goes on and on!

Playing by the Books: Library D&D Adventures
Follow Morgan into your very own fantasy story with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, and have your heroic deeds chronicled in the library's hall of fame! All players will be using the official D&D Beyond cloud app, so there are never any worries about forgetting your character sheet or dice, and rulebooks are supplied by us. Intended for adults 18+.
Please note: This program focuses on shorter adventures that are achievable over a reasonable number of sessions. At the conclusion of each adventure, there will be a new registration period to allow different community members to participate. Registration is always first come, first served; seats cannot be "held" based on prior or other program participation, but current players will necessarily be the first to know about upcoming registration periods.
