May's book is The Secrets of Paper and Ink by Lindsay Harrel, a crossover mystery that entwines the historical with the modern: Counselor Sophia impulsively moves to England in the hope of processing her own past trauma; there, she meets the troubled Ginny, who takes Sophia on as a renter to help keep her distant husband's failing bookstore afloat. Together, they are dragged into the lost story of 18th-century governess Emily, who secretly dreamed of becoming an author, and in the pursuit of Emily's scattered writings find hope as they work together to save the bookstore.
