Thanks to y'all who came out to meet our new Executive Director, Jasmyne! It was quite a scene on Thursday afternoon as folks came and went, taking us up on our invitation to say hello: One of the very first things Jasmyne set out to do since joining our library family was make herself available to the public, so Rowan County could get to know her and her vision for the future.
It's natural to wonder whether such a big change at one of your local institutions will pass the smell test, but it seems like friends and neighbors agree that everything's coming up roses here at your public library! Tim left some big shoes to fill, but one of Jasmyne's defining character traits is determination, and you can't beat good ol' eastern Kentucky stubbornness when it's aimed at things like improving our community. She's already got wheels turning on some great stuff for us and you (not to mention the wheels turning in everybody's heads as we think up new programming and better ways to serve y'all).
Of course, plenty of library staff contributed to refreshments for the drop-in meet-and-greet, which surely didn't hurt attendance. Say what you will about any of us here at RCPL, but there are no bad cooks! It's just one of the many ways we're fortunate to serve on the dream team. (Do you come to our Chow Club program, by the way? Because you should.) Emory's cookies are always a hit, and of course Tracy is too humble—"I just threw that together," she always says as everyone clamors over another showstopper snack. Maybe we should be working on a library cookbook? 🤔
Jasmyne says she really enjoyed getting to meet (or reacquaint herself with) so many of you! If you missed this chance, don't worry; you'll have another opportunity soon, when she'll be with the bookmobile during Freedom Fest in downtown Morehead on July 1st! Here's hoping that great lemonade truck parks close to us again. 🍋🥤💦
