Event Details
We're excited to welcome a very special guest: Whitney Johnson, the Appalachian Forager! You might know her from her quirky viral videos on TikTok or from her hard work in sharing our Appalachian culture, traditions, and roots.
Born and raised here in Eastern Kentucky, Whitney specializes in mushroom hunting (although she doesn't discriminate against any wild edibles). She's joining us as a part of Summer Reading for a live 2-hour workshop on how to find and identify mushrooms, which ones are safe or dangerous, how you can prepare them, what you can make with them, and more!
Following the workshop, Whitney will be available to meet and greet fans and answer questions. We ask that y'all please be polite and stay respectful of her person and her time! Remember that celebrities are people, too.
Whitney has been named the Appalachian Arts and Entertainment Awards’ Best Social Media Influencer, Appodlachia’s Appalachian of the Year and Content Creator of the Year, and has been featured in news segments, articles, and appearances on The Weather Channel. She has a book coming out next year, which we can't wait to have on our shelves!
