Rowan County Arts Center

Opened in 2007, the Rowan County Arts Center is located in one of Morehead’s most significant historic buildings: The old Rowan County courthouse, built in 1899 and located right in the center of downtown. Visitors to the Center can experience all the richness, talent, and creativity of local organizations like the Morehead Art Guild, Cave Run Arts Association, Morehead Theatre Guild, and Rowan County Historical Society. These entities are largely to thank for the renovation of the courthouse, for which they lobbied beginning in 2003.

Our Arts Center is home to a comprehensive program of arts education, appreciation, and performance, and is committed to the development and promotion of creativity at all age levels. The full spectrum of fine and performing arts can be found here, from sculpture and ceramics to drawing, painting, drama, and film. Resident artists and your neighbors out in the community hold themed exhibitions and other artistic events, too, ranging from movies on the lawn to craft trade markets. There’s no better place to experience the art of Rowan County!
